Camila Giorgi overcomes Aryna Sabalenka in their French Open 2022 third-round encounter

No28 seed Camila Giorgi rallied from a set deficit to prevail over No7 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the 2022 French Open. The Italian won 4-6 6-1 6-0 to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros for the first time in her career.

Giorgi's upset victory continues her impressive run of form in Paris

Giorgi has now won three matches in a row at Roland Garros, having also come through qualifying. She has yet to drop a set in the tournament and is looking increasingly dangerous as it progresses.

The Italian is known for her powerful groundstrokes and aggressive style of play. She was able to take the match to Sabalenka from the outset and never let her settle into a rhythm.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, was uncharacteristically error-prone and struggled to find her best form. She made 30 unforced errors in the match, compared to just 11 for Giorgi.

The Belarusian will be disappointed with her performance, but she can take heart from the fact that she has reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2020 US Open.

Giorgi, meanwhile, will be looking to continue her impressive run when she takes on Madison Keys in the fourth round. The American is the 22nd seed and will provide a tough test for the Italian.
